Sea Ranch Residence, California – Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects

Friday, January 7, 2011

This wooden house design idea come from Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects, The house is dubbed as “Sea Ranch Residence“. This wooden home idea designed in 1,030 square larger landscapes situated in The Sea Ranch on an infill lot, California. The Sea Ranch Residence is inspired by Japanese simplicity and almost entirely made of wood. It moving from the contained space of the hedge row to the open space of the meadow. This design looks exotic with has a continuous band of windows and doors capture stunning views and the natural light and it shows so simple from the outside and in. Overall, this wooden house can give the comfortable way to live and also very quiet condition for the resident who live in.

The materials reveal to the steel and framing of the wood window wall. The white painted walls form the major walls and by reserving the exposed wood and steel construction for the shaped walls and bays we could use the detailing to further reinforce the overall site and spatial experience of moving from hedgerow to meadow.

From the garden, the entry of the main house opens through a bar of support spaces and steps up into a narrow section of the open space, covered by the broad barn roof shape that is sloping up. This large volume is carved away to shape an exterior octagonal deck that draws the open meadow into the center of the house. Grass planted header steps spill down from the deck out into the meadow. A continuous band of windows and doors follows the cutout to capture the distant diagonal views of the coastline. The simple form of the barn is made spatially more complex by eroding the form.

William Turnbull, Jr. first received international attention in the 1960’s as a principal of Moore Lyndon Turnbull Whitaker (MLTW), designers of the celebrated Condominium I and Athletic Club I at Sea Ranch, an ecologically sensitive Northern California vacation community.

The Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas Pool Suites by Chemical Spaces

This is truly an excellent interior remodelling ideas of the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas which become a part of the resort-wide remodel that has done Las Vegas design firm, Chemical Space. The designer was commissioned to design several pool suites such as the miami blue suite, gorilla suite, punk rock suite, and tree line suite intended to accommodate VIP guests of the resort.

The suite were build with each suite boasting a unique theme/motif by the local designer Mark Tracy to cater to Hard Rock’s young, hip, and music-oriented guests. The suites each walk out to the newly-designed Hard Rock pool and bring a new element to the Hard Rock resort.

See several beautiful suit at the hard rock hotel in las vegas with different and unique style / themes.

MIAMI BLUE SUITE
The main idea was to create a party suite with a modern, airy, Miami feel. The primary feature is a giant Cshaped bed lined with blue, imported Italian tile. LED rope lighting and mirrored toe-kicks beneath the bed create the illusion that the bed floats above the floor. Laid-out like a party lounge, a solid-surface DJ table in “Milk Glass” foregrounds the second most noticeable feature: a wall of turntables and jam boxes framed in LED-lit alcoves. Additional features include custom-designed minimalist furniture, a custom, color-matched rug produced in Sweden, floor-to-ceiling sheers, sconce lighting, and mirrored ceiling niches. The primary challenge was a demanding timeline, having been hired late in the construction process.

GORILLA SUITE
The design concept of this suite was to create a dark twisted take on a library/cigar bar. The design features Wenge wall paneling cut into custom shapes and divided with silver, metal striping. The metallic-silver porcelain wall tile contrasts with the rich hardwood floors and gives the suite a modern feel—but the bronze mirrored ceiling, croc-skin custom furniture, and giant hand-painted wall murals of girls and gorilla make this a distinctly dark, savage, sexy urban jungle.

PUNK ROCK SUITE
The intent of the Punk Rock Suite was to create a London-style, punk rock party suite. Bands of recessed mirrors and hand-painted lines in every direction, hand-painted wall murals, and spot lighting on the walls and ceiling pack the room with movement and action. Stone-like grey wall tiles, black hardwood floors, custom modern furniture and a custom, hand-made Union Jack rug complete the London underground feel.

TREE LINE SUITE
The concept of this design began with the concept of creating a hotel room with the illusion of a two-story tree line in the center. Starting from this feature, the hand-picked colors of tree branches were the basis for the color scheme for the rest of the room. Hardwood floors complement the nature motif. Cream walls of textured tiled anchor each side of the room. To create contrast and clarify that this space is still a party suite, a rich blue band spanning from wall, to ceiling, to wall, divides the room down the center. The blue mural features hand-painted smoke in dark blue, leaves and skulls in metallic gold, and LED rope lighting to illuminate the art.

Lightmos Thonglor in Bangkok by Architectkidd

This unique inspiration building was designed by Architectkidd, they presented the Lightmos Thonglor from Bangkok, Thailand. These buildings usually begin as concrete constructions, and that looks like an “accidental” façade idea which resulted the circular holes seen here on the exterior surface of the Lightmos Thonglor. These design could reflect on the sometimes improvisational nature of construction in Bangkok.

The circular holes seen was an outcome of these design which formed with exactly focus on the exterior façade and experiment with building materials and techniques. It just to follow certain construction pratices but at the same time, it tried to undermined some of these aspects. Using holes as the cutting geometry was a kind of an optimization technique because a circle is an efficient way to create a closed shape, and it minimized the time and cost of the computer controlled cutting.

Despite it isn’t uncommon for buiding owners in Thailand to add additional layers over existing surface to created patterned exteriors, but it would be an inspiration idea for them to modify their existing shop houses because these facades conceived is low cost and also the lightweight metal materials would be cut into panels or pieces, the circular holes would be exactly increast the building attraction and in order to block out heat and sun. These an alternative renovation strategy that the design team and building owners were satisfied with.
